Peter's Halloween
31st October was approaching and ten years old Peter was enthusiastic
about celebrating Halloween
this year with his naughty friends. Peter liked the story of Ghosts as these stories were so thrilling. On Halloween this
year, He was expecting more comic books of ghosts and greeting cards decorated with dreadful ghosts.
A special class was even organized by school to tell children about Halloween and Peter had planned to attend this class.
Uncle Thomas, said Hi to the children in the class and all kids shouted in reply. They seemed excited to know more about Halloween.
He said, waving his hands " Hi Children, you all know, how we celebrate Halloween. we will discuss today, how kids all around the world celebrate the festival."" Have you heard of trick or treating? Anyone, who is fond of trick-or-treating? Who can share his experiences with us. "
Jacob, grade-
3 student raised his hand. Uncle Thomas asked him to come on the stage. Jacob
soon started his little speech.
“My
Papa tells me that Trick-or-treating is
a practice as per our customs. It is celebrated in many countries. I mean, it
is celebrated in England, in USA, in Ireland and in many other countries.”
All
children were enjoying the speech. Jacob continued- “ We chose our costumes,
well in advance for the coming Halloween. As children, we can Trick or perform
mischiefs, if our demands are not met. Our demands are of gifts, like candy,
like some petty amount for some pre-planned item.”
“ So, I
warn all of you, my dear teachers and neighbours, that I am coming this
Halloween also in the evening to get my gifts else I can trick.”
He
waved his hands, as if he was having some magic wand. The audience, children
and teachers laughed at this and they clapped.
Peter
had also seen some homes, which were specifically decorated their entrances
with artificial spider webs and Jack-o-Lanterns, which means they were ready to
treat children coming for tricking-or-treating. His neighbour, Mr John had
carried many candy packets for children last evening. He did not like those who
leave candies in the bowls of porch. He liked those who came to meet their
group and talked to them and then gifted something. His mom, however, told that
some uncles are busy and so it is difficult for them to take that much of time
for children visiting on Halloween.
Uncle Thomas told to children that on this occasion poor people
move from door to door poor and sing and say prayers for the dead in
return for food and other gifts.
He
showed them how people go to parties in costumes, decorate homes with carving
pumpkins. People go for bonfires and celebrate it with playing pranks and may
haunted games. Some even like to watch horror movies on this evening.
Thomas further said- "we
should respect souls and celebrate Halloween together with joyous spirit. All
children enjoyed the class and greeted each other for the coming Halloween."
