Increasing Reading Comprehension in Kids
Kids are mostly not interested in the stuff they read and many times they are told to memorize the stuff, if they find it difficult to comprehend. That makes things worse. As a teacher or as a parent our job is to explore and Link - what they are studying with what they have already studied, felt, visited or read before.
Make them feel one way, ask them- whether they like the topic or dislike it. Let them be on one side of the debate or story. Ask for their views. These are found to sharpen focus and increase depth of understanding.
Link to their areas of liking and if required even discuss reward points. Focus on creating real learning. Life is never about clearing a class with good marks but most of the times about the actual learning of the mind. Have long term goals for your kids.
