FEAR THE MAGIC RECIPE OF HOLLYWOOD AND BOLLYWOOD

Fear as an emotion is frequently depicted in Hindi and English movies.
Entry of the villain with special heart pacing music or Horse Gallop (tag-tag-tag-tag..) so that each time he enters, there is pin drop silence in the movie hall and fear is written larg
e on each and every one in the picture hall. You might be remembering those words- "Not for people with weak heart!"
Villains of Bollywood and Hollywood are given fiery dialogues, violent scenes and they are made the characters with huge mood swings and fear factors so that killing even an army of men without a single thought is shown to be in their genes.
.
Should we not agree that the movies showing gang wars, dacoits, criminals are nothing but fear decorated on the silver or big screens. We enjoy the fear on big screen so much that such movies were great hits.
Sholay, starting Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra can also be seen as a fear extension counter where two heroes and their co-ordinator (Sanjeev Kumar) are seen finding a cure to the fear factor, Gabbar. Hero in most of films and stories receives its value out of being solution to the fear factor.
Other fear genre movies are Ghost movies. Ghost movies find a lot many audience even among English movie admirers. I won’t be surprised if you also turn out to be one of them. Be it Harry Potter series, haunted, Insidious series or many other movies of Hollywood, terror was the main recipe on the platter.
By any chance have you watched Mahal Hindi movie released in 1949, which was a smash hit? Don’t say no, it has been telecast so many times on Delhi Doordarshan (DD). To refresh, the movie was directed by Kamal Amrohi and Ashok Kumar as well as Madhubala had shown his acting skills in casting terror effects on the audience. Go to the flash back and remember that song, Ayega Anewala Ayega, creating layers of horror in us. Bees saal baad, chandramukhee were also some of the movies which were in the Ghost fear genre and appreciated by Indian cine lovers. I hope, you agree with me that the horror was one of the formulae of Indian Cinema and even today it is working.
What about Bollywood?
You must be remembering Dracula, who if comes your way will leave you bloodless. May be you would have watched The bride of Frankestein Karloff, Carrie, etc, etc. You are right Hollywood is even more traumatic in creating horror movies.
The best part about horror movies is you dislike fear but you like movies woven on fear elements. Is it that we see someone else terrified makes us feel comfortable or is it that the pulsating heart, sweating palms, fearful faces creates some entertainment which other emotions are not able to create. Or, is it because it is contrary to love and thus acts as contrasting effect. Fearless hero term may seem you ridiculous because hero term itself tells, he who is fearless. So, for a person to be hero, there should be some fear element in the story.
Do you feel, we as viewer appreciate fear, we try to tame fear or is it only on big or silver screen that we like it the most.
May you share your feelings on liking fear factor in Hindi and English movies. Would you please?
